Honestly, we were expecting that we'd be fighting hoards of people at a public beach in NYC, that's accessible by subway, on Labor Day weekend. But fortunately, Rockaway beach proved us wrong. We were pleasantly surprised by its sandy beaches, relatively warm water and it wasn't crowded at all. Quite the little gem! Although nobody warned us about the crabs on the ocean floor that love to pinch big toes. Nor did we know we weren't supposed to swim before 10a.m. when the lifeguards get on duty...But now we know.
Perfect day for the beach.
